The 2024 Olympics start today! We're sending our best wishes to Team USA and giving an extra cheer to our very own athletes from Sarasota County. Emma Weyant, a former Riverview High and Sarasota Sharks swimmer, is competing for another Olympic medal in the women's 400-meter individual medley. Emma, who won silver in Tokyo 2020 with a time of 4:32.76, will swim on Monday, July 29, at 5 a.m., with the finals later that day at 2:30 p.m. Mary Tucker, a former Sarasota Military Academy rifle shooter, is back after clinching silver in the Mixed Team Air Rifle event in Tokyo. Shooting qualifications are set for Sunday, July 28, at 3:15 a.m. The finals will follow on Monday, July 29, at 3:30 a.m. Clark Dean, a Pine View School and Harvard graduate, returns to the Olympics after a fifth-place finish in the Men's 4 boat in Tokyo. This year, Clark will compete in the Men's 8+ boat. Heat 1 is on Monday, July 29, at 5:40 a.m., and Heat 2 is on Tuesday, July 30, at 5:50 a.m. Jake Ilardi, a Venice High School graduate, competed in the first-ever men’s skateboarding event in Tokyo 2020, finishing 11th. Jake is back for another shot!
