Congratulations to our SCS Cares of the Month - Ms. Cherrie Mucciarone from Instructional Materials and Library Services!! "Cherrie is an amazing resource for all the Librarians of the Sarasota County District. She is our glue. She goes above and beyond to help us on a daily basis. Before we start working, she sends us a welcome email. She provides intensive training sessions that are just the beginning of her constant support through emails, phone calls, chat, video tutorials, attachments, updates, and instructions. There is not a single day that goes by, that Cherrie doesn't make us feel her presence and her support. She is a great listener and a great ambassador for our needs. Thanks to her, anything seems possible. In these last weeks, she has helped me tremendously by reaching out directly to the system developers with the final target of making our software better and our job easier. Thank you, Cherrie, for caring!" - Laura Maggiore Boscarello, Suncoast Technical College You can submit a Cares today at www.sarasotacountyschools.net/scscares!

BIG NEWS!! Congratulations to Ben Jiang, an outstanding 8th grader from Pine View, for securing 1st place in the US at the 2024 RTX MATHCOUNTS National Championship! 🏆 His remarkable mathematical abilities propelled him to victory over 223 competitors, including the 2023 National Champion. As the 2024 National Champion, Ben will be awarded the $20,000 Donald G. Weinert College Scholarship. What an impressive achievement! 🌟 Here is an example question from the final round: "Kat finds the square root of n, and then she divides it by ten. If she gets seven point four, and not a bit more, then what was the value of n?" 🧐 (SPOILER ALERT: He calculated the correct answer, 5476, in just 16 seconds.) 🌟 Exciting news! 🌟 We proudly welcomed nine new teachers from the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus College of Education to our family! This past semester, we hosted 71 college and university students from 11 educational institutions. The students were placed in 25 public schools throughout the district, with placements ranging from field experiences and observations to final teaching internships. Fun fact: for the first time, all teaching interns were paid, and supervising teachers received a stipend courtesy of the generosity of the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation. 🍎

Tranquil Tuesday is a private, sensory-friendly, after-hours Selby Gardens experience designed with neuro-inclusivity in mind. The Gardens will remain open for an extra hour to explore the grounds quietly — without the crowds or noise. During this event, autistic and sensory-sensitive guests, their families, and caregivers receive complimentary tickets to Selby Gardens! Upon arrival, guests receive a customized map with easily identified icons to indicate areas of the Gardens with interactivity (touch, smells, etc.) or displays that may be overstimulating (loud noises, strong odors, etc.). The Tropical Conservatory, gift shop, cafe, and Museum of Botany and the Arts will be closed; however, the Children's Rainforest Garden, Florida Lagoon, Mangrove Boardwalk, restrooms, and all walking paths will remain open. Noise-cancelling earmuffs, sensory kits and wheelchairs are available on loan, free of charge. Guests are welcome to bring any toys, favorite items, or stimming devices to make the visit as comfortable as possible. While admission to Tranquil Tuesday is free, advanced registration is required for all guests and accompanying family members or caregivers.
