Sarasota County Schools proudly announces that Superintendent Terry Connor has been named the Outstanding Superintendent Communicator of the Year by the Sunshine State School Public Relations Association (SUNSPRA). The award was presented during the 80th Joint Conference of FSBA and FADSS.
This award honors a Florida superintendent who demonstrates exceptional leadership in communication and transparency. Since taking the helm, Terry Connor has implemented innovative strategies that strengthen trust and engagement across Sarasota County.

Ø Launching Staff Weekly and Administrator Weekly Newsletters for consistent internal messaging.
Producing podcasts and videos such as Trading Spaces with Terry Connor and SCS In Tune! to provide an approachable, transparent look inside the district.
Hosting Coffee with Connor and InSight Community Connection Series forums for open dialogue with families and stakeholders.
Leading crisis communication during hurricanes Debby and Milton with daily updates in partnership with the Emergency Operations Center.
Spearheading the Referendum Millage campaign, achieving an unprecedented 84% voter approval—the highest in Florida.
Terry’s efforts have earned national recognition, including being named an NSPRA Superintendent to Watch in 2024. His commitment to proactive, transparent communication reflects a deep dedication to public education and community trust.
