Surzette Brutus is a standout student in the Adult Cosmetology program at Suncoast Technical College. Known for her positivity, bright smile, and uplifting outlook, she brings an incredible energy to the classroom every day. From the very beginning, her ambition and kindness have set her apart. She consistently gives 100% effort whether learning new skills, practicing her craft, or perfecting a service.

Surzette’s career path reflects her drive and determination. Having already successfully completed STC’s Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program, she is excelling in cosmetology while continuing to aim high. Her long-term goal is to become a nurse practitioner and open her own medical aesthetics spa, offering injections and a variety of aesthetic services.

About the STC Cosmetology Program
The Adult Cosmetology program at Suncoast Technical College prepares students for an exciting career in the beauty and fashion industry. Through hands-on training, students gain the skills and confidence needed to work in high-end salons or even start their own business.
Daily attendance is key: as a 1,200-hour state licensure program, students must attend in person to complete all requirements. This commitment mirrors the dedication and professionalism needed to succeed in the cosmetology field.
What Students Can Expect:
· Hands-on experience in haircutting, hairstyling techniques, coloring, chemical relaxers, skincare, nail services, and make-up application.
· Training in a professional environment at The Cutting Edge Salon, the STC student-run salon, where students work with real customers.
· Instruction from industry experts, along with guest lectures that provide insight into the latest trends and techniques.
· Opportunities to compete and showcase skills through SkillsUSA, a national career and technical student organization.
Graduates of the program are 100% eligible to sit for the state licensing exam. After completing all coursework, students earn their Occupational Completion Point-A (OCP-A) and are ready to launch careers in a dynamic and creative industry.
