Lights, Camera, Action!
Krishna Davis knew at an early age that her future would be in the film industry. “Ever since I was four years old, I can remember wanting to be an actor.” At the age of eleven, Krishna began doing television commercials. That’s when she realized being in front of the camera was not for her. “I’ve always had such a passion for film and honestly believed my future would be in acting.” Although acting wasn’t what she expected, Krishna followed her heart and stayed on the film path. In high school, she signed up for a TV Production Program where she was introduced to her future. “I remember thinking this is where I am supposed to be, and this is exactly what I am supposed to be doing!” After graduating high school at Acceleration Academy East in Orlando, FL, Krishna wanted a change of scenery.
“I wasn’t certain about where I would pursue my film career but after a road trip to Sarasota, and checking out Suncoast Technical College, everything fell into place for me.”
Krishna enrolled in Digital Video Technology, also known at Suncoast Technical College as DVT. She studied under instructors Ed Fagan and Bob Gray.
“I am so lucky to have had Mr. Fagan and Mr. Gray as instructors. Mr. Fagan helped me so much with script writing and directing. Mr. Gray was extremely knowledgeable in the editing aspect.”
Krishna graduated from the DVT Program in April 2021 and feels that her STC experience really trained her for the job she is in. Shortly after graduating, Krishna was hired as a film editor for Response Technologies Corporation in Sarasota, FL.
Response Technologies Corporation specializes in the development, delivery and management of training programs for public safety and private sector emergencies services. Krishna’s job is to create training videos for them. Some of the agencies that Response Technologies has developed traditional classroom, computer based, video and on-line programs for include State Emergency Response Commissions, the National Fire Academy, the FBI National Academy, and NASA.
Krishna’s most recent project was to create a water rescue training video for firefighters. “It was a lot of fun to be out on the water. Not only was I able to obtain some great footage of the firefighters performing emergency water rescues, but I learned so much about the intricacies of their job.” Krishna attributes her knowledge and skills to the ‘hands-on’ experience she had at STC. “The DVT Progam really prepared me, especially because I am doing extensive editing work. The equipment is a little different from what I learned on but very easy to grasp.” Krishna has no plans to leave her job any time soon but says that long-term, she may consider becoming a video editor for TV shows and possibly movies.
“I love my job and want to soak up as much experience here as possible. I also love Sarasota and I and can’t thank Mr. Fagan and Mr. Gray enough for everything they taught me.”
