Sarasota County Schools is proud to be recognized with a 2024 “Turnip the Beet!” Bronze Award by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service. This national honor celebrates outstanding summer meal program sponsors who go above and beyond to provide children with meals that are not only nutritious, but also appealing and enjoyable.
Each year, millions of children across the country face a higher risk of food insecurity when school is out for the summer. Programs like Sarasota County Schools’ Summer Meals help bridge that gap, ensuring students continue to receive the nourishment they need to grow, learn, and thrive.
For summer 2024, the USDA recognized 199 sponsors nationwide for their excellence, including 86 Gold, 91 Silver, and 22 Bronze awardees. Sarasota County Schools is proud to be counted among these honorees and remains committed to supporting both food and nutrition security for students and families.
This recognition is a reflection of the dedication of our Food & Nutrition Services team, who work tirelessly to ensure children have access to high-quality, healthy meals all year long.
