Mr. Jack Turgeon, Assistant Director, Suncoast Polytechnical High School
Welcome to the Suncoast Polytechnical High School web site. Our site is designed to assist you in locating information pertinent to our school including key curricular components, our application process and key contact information for teachers and staff.
Suncoast Polytechnical High School is a technology magnet high school that offers a rigorous curriculum to prepare its students for college and careers. SPHS graduated its first Senior class in June of 2012 and sits on a 66-acre campus that is shared with Suncoast Technical College. SPHS offers the Sarasota community a small school atmosphere by capping the total enrollment for students in grades 9-12 at 600 students. However, SPHS students have big and unique learning opportunities to accelerate in both CTE and academic coursework.
SPHS offers acceleration for students in CTE Pathways beginning in the 9th grade, which sets us apart from other comprehensive high schools. SPHS offers students two signature programs: Animation/Gaming/Simulation (AGS) and Engineering/Robotics CTE Programs. Students at SPHS can accelerate in CTE Pathways and rigorous AP coursework due to our block scheduling. SPHS offers the AP Capstone Diploma Program to our students along with 44 different CTE Pathways to choose from. At SPHS we offer both CTE Pathways and rigorous coursework for our students to be college and career ready!
SPHS prides itself on its relationship with Suncoast Technical College, where students get to dual enroll with the college. In partnership with STC, our SPHS students access to all of the many programs offered on our shared campus. These programs include coursework that prepares students for work in fields related to Health Sciences, Business and Human Services and Industrial Education. Some of the specific opportunities for high school students include: Emergency Medical Technician / Firefighter, Licensed Practical Nursing, Accounting Operations, Certified Culinarian Arts, ASE Certified Auto Technician, Drafting, and Advanced Manufacturing.
SPHS also takes pride in its relationships with the Business Community. Through these partnerships, SPHS students have the opportunity to participate in job shadowing experiences beginning in the ninth grade. Our job shadow partners not only provide key experiences related to student's chosen career goals but, also actively involve themselves in our school community. At SPHS, we begin with the end in mind!
I look forward to serving the students of Sarasota County and hope that you find all the necessary information on this website. Should you need additional information, please contact us at (941) 921-3981.
