North Port receives $1.69 million to provide jobs

North Port, October 15, 2021 - Governor Ron DeSantis announced a $1.69 million award to the City of North Port through the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund. The City of North Port is planning to match this award which will help fund the installation of water and wastewater infrastructure across 500 acres, creating thousands of jobs.  Suncoast Technical College North Port Branch is poised to help train people to enter this workforce through their numerous programs, including Carpentry and Industrial Machining Maintenance and Repair.

“STC is looking forward to being a major contributor to training the future North Port workforce that this grant generates” said Ron Dipillo, the Executive Director of Suncoast Technical College.

The Florida Job Growth Grant Fund is an economic development program designed to promote public infrastructure and workforce training across the state. Proposals are reviewed by the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) and Enterprise Florida, Inc., (EFI) and chosen by the Governor to meet the demands for workforce training or infrastructure needs in communities around the state.
