Pine View School to Host “Access and Equity in Gifted Education” Workshop & Discussion on September 7

SARASOTA COUNTY, September 5, 2019 – Please join Sarasota County Schools on September 7 for a morning seminar designed for any educator interested in diversifying gifted education. Access and Equity are critical concepts that play central roles in all communities. Gifted programs throughout the nation have found it difficult to create diverse student bodies. In this discussion, we will share expert insights, personal perspectives and real-life research-based solutions to make a positive difference in ensuring access and equity for all students.

Program highlights include:

  • Address from Stephen Covert, principal of Pine View School
  • Keynote address from Joy Lawson-Davis, director of the National Association for Gifted Children and author of Bright, Talented, & Black: A Guide for Families of African American Gifted Learners
  • Presentation by Harriett Moore, principal of McIntosh Middle School and an alumna of Pine View School
  • Presentation by Edward James, local community leader and an alumnus of Pine View School
  • Presentation by current Pine View School students participating in the DIGS (Diversity in Gifted Schools) Task Force
  • Presentation by Laura Kingsley, assistant superintendent/chief academic officer of Sarasota County Schools
