Important Reminders and Program Information from Food & Nutrition Services

SARASOTA COUNTY, August 27, 2019 – Sarasota County Schools is reminding families of key details and information related to a few of Food & Nutrition Services’ programs for the 2019-20 school year.

Universal Free Breakfast Program

The following Sarasota County schools will be participating in the Universal Free Breakfast Program. These schools were chosen based on their high percentage of students eligible for free & reduced-price meals:

 

Free & Reduced-Price Lunch

Meals are made available on a reduced-price (Breakfast .30¢ and Lunch .40¢) or free basis to students from families who meet certain income requirements which are determined by the U.S. Government. Approximately 50% of our students currently receive free and reduced-price meals. Eligible parents are encouraged to apply online for their children to receive free and reduced-price meals throughout the school year, including breakfast and lunch.

Florida’s Income Eligibility Guidelines for free & reduced-price meals are effective from July 1,2019 to June 30,2020. The following are income scales used by the School Board of Sarasota County to determine eligibility for free & reduced-price meals:

Please note:
A new application must be filled out at the beginning of each school year in order for the meal benefits to continue. Meal benefits begin on the day the application is processed by Food & Nutrition Services and continue throughout the school year in which the application is approved, the summer and approximately the first thirty days of the next school year. Supper Program

The Supper Program is provided by the federal Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The program is a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) program which is administered by the Florida Department of Health. The Supper Program provides free, nutritious meals at sites where at least half of the children attending the school are eligible for free and reduced-priced meals. The afterschool programs must offer educational or enrichment activities after the regular school day ends. Meals will be provided to students 18 and younger participating in eligible afterschool enrichment programs.
