Dr. Denise Cantalupo Named Executive Director of the Office of Accountability and Choice with Sarasota County Schools

SARASOTA COUNTY, April 18, 2018 – Dr. Denise Cantalupo has been named executive director of the Office of Accountability and Choice with Sarasota County Schools. She has been with the school district since 1995 and since 2011, has served as the director of Research, Assessment, Accountability and School Improvement. In this role, she has been instrumental in providing for the school district’s assessment programs, instructional information systems and the development of the school district’s first-ever data dashboard. She succeeds Dr. Natalie Rocca who retired from the school district in February.

“Dr. Denise Cantalupo has been an essential member of the school district’s administrative team for the past eight years,” noted Todd Bowden, superintendent of Sarasota County Schools. “She has done a tremendous job documenting and compiling our students’ achievements, and I am delighted to have her tackle this new role. I am confident she will make an excellent addition to the senior staff, working to advance success for all our students.”

“The Office of Accountability and Choice requires a leader with a special skill set, which Denise possesses,” said Dr. Laura Kingsley, assistant superintendent and Chief Academic Officer. “She has held leadership roles in nearly every department she will now supervise. More importantly, she loves our children and is passionate about supporting our teachers and staff in ways that maximize student learning.”

Dr. Cantalupo has served the Sarasota County School district since 1995 in various positions and departments. She worked in the grants department from 2001 – 2011 and worked as a facilitator and instructor with the Adult and Community Education Center from 1995 – 2001. Prior to her tenure in Sarasota County, she was a bilingual, multicultural and early childhood evaluation consultant and special education evaluation consultant with New York Public Schools from 1986 – 1993.

Throughout her professional career, Dr. Cantalupo has served as an instructor at Argosy University, Manatee Community College, Saint Leo College, Queensboro College and the New York Chiropractic College. She received a bachelor’s degree in science at the New York Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in psychological research from Hunter College of the City University of New York and a master’s degree in philosophy from the Graduate School of the City University of New York. She received her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of the City University of New York and most recently achieved an educational leadership certification from NOVA University.

Dr. Cantalupo has been married for 31 years to hear husband, Joseph, and together they have two children, Joey and Shannon, both of whom are graduates of Booker High School in Sarasota County.
