Pine View School’s High School Choral Program Hits All the Right Notes

SARASOTA COUNTY, December 17. 2019 – Pine View School’s high school choral program has had a remarkable first half of the 2019-20 school year. From prestigious performances to rigorous competitions, these students have impressed audiences near and far with their undeniable musicality!

Please join us in celebrating the following highlights from Pine View School’s high school choruses and individual choral students:

  • For the first time, Pine View School participated in the Florida American Choral Directors Association’s (FACDA) annual State Conference and State Honors Choir in Orlando. This past October, Josie Filipanits, Danny McDonald and Alana Schreibman proudly served in the Senior High Honors Choir. Pine View was the only school in the region —comprised of Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto, Hardee and Charlotte counties— to send students to the Senior High Honors Choir.
  • Alana Schreibman was the only student from the Florida Vocal Association’s (FVA) District 11 —comprised of Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto and Hardee counties— to quality for the All-State Sight-Reading Chorus in January. Barely over 100 students, statewide, were chosen for the selective choir based on their musicianship test score (49/50 or higher) and their sight-reading test score (37/40 or higher). Alana sight-read 39 measures to qualify! Student participants in the Sight-Reading Chorus do not pre-rehearse their music; singers literally sight-read new music for the first time live at the concert. Over the course of two days, student participants will sight-read over 70 pieces of music, ultimately performing 6 pieces at the concert.
  • For the fourth year in a row, Pine View’s high school choral students auditioned for, and were accepted to perform in, the Epcot® Candlelight Processional, a staple event in the theme park’s annual International Festival of the Holidays. Pine View students sang in two evening shows alongside other high school choirs from across Florida. The student singers were accompanied by professional Disney musicians and singers, as well as Isabella Rossellini, who served as the celebrity narrator for the shows.

All choral programs, grades 6-12, have been under the direction of Mr. Seth Gardner (winner of the 2010 Sarasota County Teacher of the Year award) since 2014. Prior to his tenure at Pine View School, Gardner served as the choral teacher at Heron Creek Middle School in 2007 as well as at Woodland Middle School in 2008, where he helped open the then brand-new school and built its choir program from the ground-up. Even after 18 years of teaching choral music, Mr. Gardner still says he finds “intense joy working with students and performing on stage”.
