Forty Carrots Family Center – Celebrating 25 Years of Serving Sarasota County
by Minta Getzen, Forty Carrots Family Center
SARASOTA COUNTY, September 2019 – At Forty Carrots Family Center, we hear individual families’ stories every day: grandparents turned caregivers; families caught in the web of abuse and neglect; a teenager grappling with an unexpected pregnancy; parents who can’t afford to send their children to preschool; or new parents, seeking to enhance their parenting skills so they can be the best parents they can possibly be.
Since 1993, more than 40,000 families from all walks of life have been strengthened through Forty Carrots’ programs and services, which can mitigate the negative effects of toxic stress, poverty, abuse and other adverse environments. These interactions build positive parental bonds and strong relationships which are critical for healthy child development.
One of the important ways we support a broad cross-section of our community is with our Annual Free Community Speaker Event, Presented in partnership with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, the year’s event features Dr. Ross Greene who will share insights from his best-selling book, Raising Human Beings: Creating a Collaborative Partnership with Your Child. Attendees will receive a free copy of the book and certificates of attendance will be available. The event will be held at 7 p.m. at Riverview High School Performing Arts Center. Admission is free and open to the community, but your RSVP is required.
