District Receives National Endowment for the Arts Grant
Provided by Any Given Child Sarasota
SARASOTA COUNTY, May 21, 2019 – Sarasota County Schools and Any Given Child Sarasota are pleased to share that the school district has been awarded a $45,000 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grant. This will enable the organizations to collaborate even more effectively to launch the next wave of arts-integrated professional development: Strategy Movers.
A couple fast facts:
The funding will help launch a professional development project to train and empower arts integration coaches across the district
The award of $45,000 will help provide monthly workshops for all our teachers and one-on-one coaching for rising lead teachers in the field of arts integration
As we began amplifying our impact by offering arts integration training in 24 of our elementary schools, it became clear we had many leaders on the rise. Teachers began sharing lessons with their teams and giving talks at staff meetings about the impact arts integration had on their students. To continue to support this core group of educators, Jessica DiLorenzo, arts integration specialist, and other highly regarded national and local teaching artists will provide intensive small group and one to one mentoring.
The focus will be on integrating drama, movement and visual art with core content and social emotional development. Teachers who become Strategy Movers will implement new skills, reflect on their work, and provide and receive peer feedback on lesson planning and strategy implementation. They will then lead demonstration lessons and workshops within their own schools and throughout the district.
We are thrilled for what’s to come and thankful to all who laid a foundation of learning, leading, and rising stronger through the arts in our county!
