Lamarque Elementary Students Share Kindness and Love
Provided by Lamarque Elementary School
SARASOTA COUNTY, May 9, 2019 – On Tuesday, May 7th smiles were present on the faces of young and elderly alike in North Port. Eight first grade students, their parents and teachers, as well as Lamarque Elementary School Principal Troy Thompson and the school’s mascot— The King of Learning —visited residents at the Gardens of North Port. The children delivered 80 “Bags of Love” (goodie bags filled with care items and cards) that brought smiles and joy to the precious elderly residents at the retirement & assisted living community. Refreshments for the seniors, as well as the cosmetic bags, were provided by the Rotary Club of Englewood. Valerie Wagner, from the Rotary Club of Englewood, also attended and helped with the set-up and delivery of bags.
In the spirit of random acts of kindness, the students were inspired to help local senior citizens in North Port. The first-grade students decided they wanted to facilitate a community outreach project for seniors and named it “Bags of Love”. Interest in this program spread so fast, it was implemented school-wide! Students grades K-5 and their families, along with school staff members, generously contributed items to fill the goodie bags. The special delivery on Tuesday was the culmination of the school’s effort to give back to seniors in the community, and there are already plans in the works for future outreach opportunities.
