Sarasota Middle School’s Odyssey of the Mind Team Heads to World Finals

May 1, 2019 – Some amazing students from Sarasota Middle School will soon find themselves performing for the world… the Odyssey of the Mind World Championship, that is!
Odyssey of the Mind, or OM, has been in existence for over twenty-five years and is an intellectual and creative competition aimed at teaching students the value of teamwork and creative problem solving. It is completely up to the children to come up with ideas, engineer technical features, make costumes and props, and present their interpretation of the answer to a highly complex problem.
Sarasota Middle School’s team, comprised of 6th and 8th graders, worked for months to prepare themselves to compete. The team was thrilled when they advanced from regional competition onto the State finals in Orlando. It was there at the University of Central Florida arena where the team’s wildest dream became a reality — they had won 1st place in State and earned their way to the World Championship.
The international competition takes place May 22- May 25 at Michigan State University, and offers an invaluable experience for these children where they will be able to meet and share with students from around the world.
