Sarasota County School District Outperforms State Scores in End-of-Year Standardized Testing
Sarasota County, FL, June 29, 2023 – According to the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) results released today by the Florida Department of Education (FDOE), Sarasota County Schools scored higher than the state in most tested grade levels in English Language Arts (ELA) 3-10 and Mathematics 3-8, Algebra, and Geometry. All of the above assessments are based on the new B.E.S.T. standards. Science and all other End of Course (EOC) assessments based on prior standards were also released. FDOE will release baseline school grades in Winter 2023.
Results are based on all students tested, including charter school students, English-language learners, and students with disabilities. Please see below for highlights of Sarasota County Schools’ FAST results:
English Language Arts (ELA):
• District ELA proficiency rates are 7 to 13 percentage points higher than state rates across grades 3-10.
Mathematics:
• Sarasota County students’ proficiency rates in Mathematics are 7 to 19 percentage points higher than the state across grades 3–7.
- Sarasota County students’ proficiency rates in Algebra and Geometry are 13 and 11 percentage points, respectively, higher than state rates.
Science:
• Sarasota County students’ proficiency rates in grades 5 and 8 Science are 16 and 11 percentage points, respectively, higher than state rates.
- Sarasota County students’ proficiency rates in Biology are 9 percentage points higher than the state rate.
US History and Civics:
- Sarasota County students’ proficiency rates in US History are 9 percentage points higher than the state rate.
- Sarasota County students’ proficiency rates in Civics are 14 percentage points higher than the state rate.
