SCS Earns A-Rating for 2021-22!

SARASOTA COUNTY, July 12, 2022 – The Sarasota County School District has earned an A grade for the 2021-22 school year! Sarasota County Schools was one of 14 school districts in the state of Florida to receive an A grade. Since grading began in 2004, Sarasota County Schools remains one of only two districts in the state to maintain an A rating.

The following message was shared by Superintendent Dr. Asplen.

Greetings employees, families & community members:

Hoping this message finds you having a great summer season so far! I am reaching out with a message about our District grade. As you may be aware, the Florida Department of Education just released its district grades and Sarasota County Schools has, once again, been rated an “A” District. Our District and school-based teams will immediately begin working through these latest findings to help us continue to refine our approach to teaching, learning, assessment, and student achievement for the coming school year.

While maintaining our A-rating is tremendous cause for celebration, let us not lose sight of all the effort and hard work that was required to uphold our pattern of excellence. This past school year – our first fully in-person instructional & learning time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic – was intentionally focused on recovery and acceleration for our students. We knew going into the year that, more than ever, our students, teachers, and staff members would be stretched and challenged in unprecedented ways.

But as our result shows, our school communities tirelessly pushed through the roadblocks with steadfast tenacity. Instead of viewing the situation as a hinderance, everyone chose to approach the year as an opportunity for discovery and growth. Rest assured, we will not lose sight of the work ahead to close the gaps that still exist – pressing on to realize our full academic and operational goals as a district and as school communities.

I am so incredibly proud of our students, families, teachers, and staff members for all of the diligent work that was invested and for truly coming together to support and uplift each other, and I remain humble to be the Superintendent for such an outstanding District. Thank you for your continued, collective support of Sarasota County Schools!

As one,

Dr. Brennan Asplen,

Superintendent of Schools
