Sarasota County Schools Police Department Welcomes New Officer at January 10 Oath of Office Ceremony
SARASOTA COUNTY, January 10, 2020 – The Sarasota County Schools Police Department (SCSPD) welcomed Richard Taylor, a new School Resource Officer, into its ranks this morning after holding an Oath of Office ceremony in the School Board’s chambers. District personnel, family and guests from the community were all on hand to witness the meaningful occasion.
“We are pleased to welcome another dedicated officer into our school-based police department,” said Mitsi Corcoran, superintendent of Sarasota County Schools. “Officer Taylor’s insights and unique experiences related to school communities are an immense contribution to our team. His genuine interest in our students’ wellbeing is evident, and we know he will make a big impact through his service.”
“Officer Taylor’s love for working with children and young people is vital to the success of a School Resource Officer,” commented Sarasota County School District Chief of Police Tim Enos. “He will continue to live out his motto— changing one life at a time —and be a supportive resource to the students in our schools. We are proud to welcome him into our law enforcement family.”

- Richard Taylor: Officer Taylor initially started his career with Sarasota County Schools as a teacher, serving at Oak Park School, Wilkinson Elementary School and Atwater Elementary School. He then served as a Behavioral Specialist assigned to Atwater Elementary. Officer Taylor next decided to pursue a career in law enforcement and joined the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a Patrol Deputy. Officer Taylor will now serve in the SCSPD as a School Resource Officer for North Port High School.
