Reading volunteers needed!
Sarasota County, FL, May 20, 2022 – You are invited to be a volunteer reading mentor and help inspire a love of literacy this summer. There are two different summer programs in need of volunteers.
Dive Into Reading
Who: Anyone 18+ and high school seniors
What: Dive Into Reading began in 2017 and is in its second year at Sarasota County Schools. This year the program will serve second-grade students of Emma E Booker Elementary. The goal of the Dive into Reading program is to instill an intrinsic desire to learn and a love of reading as our reading mentors build relationships and make reading a fun and engaging experience. This program is made possible by the Suncoast Campaign for Grade Level Reading.
When: Every Tuesday in June from 8:30 - 10:30 AM

Deadline to sign up: June 1, 2022
Training info: May 27 at 4:30 PM or June 3 at 9:00 AM at Emma E Booker Elementary. You only need to attend one training session.

Summer Reading Camps
Who: 16-17 years old with an accompanying adult or anyone over the age of 18 (Level 1 volunteer)
What: Summer Reading Camps are hosted by Sarasota County Schools and provide an opportunity for struggling 3rd-grade students from Title 1 schools to receive individual attention and instruction during the summer months. The goal of Summer Reading Camps is to prevent retention and help our youngest learners.
When: Monday - Thursday, June 6 - July 14 from 12 - 1:30 PM
Where: Fruitville Elementary, Laurel Nokomis School and Cranberry Elementary
