STC Digital Design Student Wins National Logo Contest

Suncoast Technical College is proud to announce the winner of the NTSA (National Training & Simulation Association) STEM Logo Contest is recent high school graduate, Miss Hannah Nichol. NTSA is an organization that promotes international and interdisciplinary cooperation within the professional fields of modeling, simulation, and training. They bring government, academia, and industry together to develop new training and simulation solutions through events such as the annual Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC), the world’s largest modeling, simulation and training event.

On April 26, 2021, the NTSA STEM Event Planning Committee announced a Call for Entries for a Logo Contest. Their goal was to redesign their STEM Team look and the way in which they hold STEM outreach events. The contest was open to students and instructors across the county. Hannah Nichol, a home-schooled, senior year, STC Dual Enrolled, Digital Design Student put her nose to the grind and submitted three, (the maximum amount of entries), within her less than 20-day deadline.

On Friday, May 21, 2021, the winner, Hannah Nichol was announced.

“I was excited to participate in the contest but never expected that I’d be the winner of a national competition! I was shocked when I found out! I can still hardly believe it and I am so thankful to Ms. Keller and STC for such a great opportunity.”

Hannah has always wanted to pursue a career in the arts. She has been drawing for as long as she can remember and loves to work in a variety of mediums, including graphite and pastels, where getting her hands dirty is something she really enjoys. In addition to digital design and drawing, Hannah is also interested in music.

“I’ve always wanted to do something with the arts, whether it be logo or web design, music or drawing. I am a creative person and so my goal is to have a career that provides me an outlet to utilize that creativity.”

Long term, Hannah is not 100% sure of what her ultimate career will be. She does know that it will be something in the arts and is leaning toward logo design or illustration.

“There are so many facets to design! I have a friend in the industry who loves it and after experiencing and learning all that I have as a first year Digital Design Student, I am overwhelmed (in a good way) with so many options!”

Right now, Hannah says she's excited about returning to STC in the fall as an adult student. She is looking forward to learning more and exploring all the options in the art world.

“My time so far at STC has been such an amazing experience and opportunity. Ms. Keller is FANTASTIC, creative, informative and thoroughly knows this industry.”
