Scheduling and Guidance

Good Evening VHS Families,

Each year, Venice High School works to complete a 5 Day count which assists in providing guidance for staffing to serve all students.  To effectively account for each of our students, this process takes two weeks to complete.  Your student may have reported that some of their classes are more crowded than others.  This is because Venice High School has grown again this school year.  Venice High School will be adding staff members over the coming weeks to account for its growth.  There will be some slight scheduling changes resulting from our 5 Day count.

Our priority is safety in the classroom and your students access to excellent teaching and learning.  Schedule changes will be completed by Tuesday, September 15th.  Students will follow their new schedules beginning on Wednesday, September 16th

Students and Parents should review the Family Access Portal on Tuesday evening to review their schedules.  For most of our students, there will be no change.  If your student does receive a schedule change and you have concerns about their ability to adjust to a new course, please reach out to their counselor who can assist in facilitating and building new relationships with your student and their teachers.

Thank you,

VHS Administrative Team

Welcome Back VHS Families,

As we get ready to start the school year we wanted to reach out to you with important information that pertains to students who will begin the year as a Remote Learner. All VHS students will begin the school year on Monday, August 31st. Remote Learners will access their class schedule via the Family Access Portal. Schedules were made available to students on August 24th. In order to protect the safety of all students, VHS staff will continue to change student schedules throughout this week to create as much space for our students returning to campus. As such, Remote students should log in to the Family Access Portal on Sunday, August 30th to view the schedule of classes they are expected to attend on Monday, August 31st. There will be opportunities for all students to request schedule changes from their school counselors. This process will occur during the first two weeks of school and VHS will communicate the Schedule Change process later this week.

After accessing your student schedule via the Family Access Portal, your student will be expected to follow the schedule as outlined. Students will access their courses by logging into their MySCS account. Students will need their n# and passwords to access this account. After accessing MySCS students will need to select the Blackboard tile. Once logged in to Blackboard students will be able to select each of the courses for which they are registered. After selecting a course, students will find necessary assignments, video conferencing directions/log in information and other pertinent course information for each of their classes.

Please take this opportunity to review all expectations for Remote learners at the following:

Thank you for your attention to this message and we look forward to serving all of students at VHS for the 2020-2021.

VHS Families,

As we welcome all our students back for the 2020-2021 School year, we realize that many students desire the opportunity to meet with their counselors regarding their schedule.  VHS staff is committed to working with and supporting all of our students.  This year, it will be necessary to operate differently while on campus.  This includes the process for student schedule changes.

  • All students will need to follow their schedules as they appear in the Family Access Portal beginning on Monday, August 31st – students will continue to follow this schedule until a counselor has an opportunity to change their schedule as outlined below.
  • Face-To-Face students will have the opportunity to request schedule changes by accessing a Microsoft FORMS Document – each classroom teacher will have the QR Code for student access.
  • Remote learners will have access to a link that will be provided via the Venice High School Website.
  • Counselors will review requested student schedule changes and call students individually to Administrative Offices – this will allow us to maintain safe spacing on our campus for all. Remote learners will receive phone calls
  • This process will take up to two weeks or 10 days to complete which aligns with our districts two-week add drop procedures captured in the Sarasota County Schools Student Progression Plan.
  • Schedule change requests will be considered for the following reasons:
    • Student incorrectly placed
    • Student seeks a potential change to an alternate elective course
  • Schedule change requests will not be considered for the following reasons:
    • Student desires a different teacher
    • Student desires the same course in a different period
    • Student desires a different lunch period

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to serve all students and families at VHS.
