VHS Update - October 8, 2020

Good afternoon Venice High School families,

This is Principal Eric Jackson with a reminder that there will not be school on Monday, October 12, and November 18.  The Sarasota County School Board recently approved these two additional professional planning days, revising the current district calendar. These planning days will become non-student attendance days and will not result in an extension of the current school year.

This additional time will provide teachers the opportunity to plan with colleagues, create lesson plans, grade student assignments, communicate with families, and in some cases receive additional training with technology and concurrent teaching methods. Also, our custodians will provide deep cleaning and continue to disinfect surfaces and touchpoints on all campuses across the district, and bus drivers will continue to disinfect all buses. On November 18 we will begin reapplying OMNISHIELD to all surfaces and touchpoints, this is the long-lasting anti-microbial disinfectant that we will be respraying ahead of the product’s 90-day effectiveness rate.  These efforts by our custodial team will help ensure that the campus is as safe as possible for students and staff.

I appreciate your understanding as we continue to navigate through this unprecedented time.

VHS Update - August 28, 2020

Greetings Venice High School Families,

This is Principal Eric Jackson with an important message regarding the first day of school.  On behalf of our faculty and staff, it is my pleasure to extend a heartfelt welcome to you as we begin the 2020-2021 school year. As you can imagine, our school campus will look and feel different from the past as we work together to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Our staff will do their very best to help every student get acclimated and feel connected to our school.  You will find our school will continue to be a safe, welcoming, and student-centered learning environment.

Please remember that our school day begins at 7:30 am. All students must arrive at school on time, every day. Please be mindful of the volume of traffic you may encounter starting tomorrow. Additionally, we offer parent pick-up and drop-off at the Venice Performing Arts Center to ease traffic congestion and expedite the process. This year, we have established staggered entrance times for students arriving on the campus. Students being dropped off may enter our campus beginning at 7:15 am. If you arrive early, please park in the VPAC parking lot. Students with parking permits will be required to remain in their cars until 7:20 am.  Academic buildings on campus will open at 7:20 a.m. and students should report to their first-period class. Once students arrive on campus, they will be required to wear a face mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19. A reminder that all water fountains will not be accessible so please plan on bringing a water bottle.  There is a water bottle filler located in the cafeteria with more to be installed.

Students should access the Family Access Portal to find their most up to date schedule.  Additionally, Venice High School will have support staff available in the courtyard during the first week of school to assist students in finding their first-period reporting locations. During the first period, students will receive a full and updated schedule.

I look forward to working with you and I wish you all a great start to the school year. Thank you very much in advance for your patience and cooperation as we all embark on a new way of supporting students and staff during this pandemic.
