November 11,11:30 AM Eta Update:

Hello everyone, this is Superintendent Brennan Asplen with a quick update on the school district’s response to the storm.

Due to the change in Eta’s track early this morning, we will be moving forward with a 2-hour early dismissal today for all public schools. After-school activities, including aftercare, are canceled.

We realize that changes to the school schedule are disruptive to our families and employees. Thank you for your patience. The school district works closely with the county’s Emergency Operations Center to ensure we are using the most up-to-date information to make the safest decisions for our students, families, teachers, and staff members.

We look at many weather factors as we’re making storm-related school decisions, including expected rainfall, wind speed, and flood potential. Some students ride the bus to school while others walk, bike, or are dropped off by a family member or guardian. Additionally, we think of the safety of our teachers and staff members as they travel to & from work. safety for all is our top priority.

Sarasota County is an expansive region and different parts of our county experience weather in different ways.

Again, thank you for working with us and being patient as we navigate this situation together. We will continue to monitor the storm throughout the day to determine any impact on school tomorrow. We will share additional updates as more information becomes available.
