July 14 – Important Information from Sarasota County Schools
July 14, 2020
Good evening Sarasota County families, teachers, and staff members,
We wanted to share several key announcements and next steps that have come to fruition based on decisions the School Board of Sarasota County made during their Workshop and Meeting, respectively, earlier today.
New Superintendent of Sarasota County Schools
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Brennan Asplen for being selected as the Superintendent of Sarasota County Schools. The School Board of Sarasota County voted unanimously for Dr. Asplen to assume this role. Contract negotiations will soon be underway – an official start date for Dr. Asplen has yet to be determined.
School Reopening – Next Steps
The School Board of Sarasota County has approved the school district’s plan for reopening traditional public schools for the 2020-2021 school year. In addition to offering in-person instruction and concurrent learning, the plan will include pushing the start date of school for traditional public school students to Monday, August 31. Before the reopening plan can be implemented, it must first be submitted to, and approved by, the State of Florida. The proposed final plan will be available on the school district website tomorrow morning.
Additional information about both the new Superintendent of Schools and the final school reopening plan will be shared as soon as it’s available.
