District Announces New Principal for Taylor Ranch Elementary and Brookside Middle
SARASOTA COUNTY, May 15, 2020 – Sarasota County Schools is pleased to announce that Ryan Chase has been selected as the new Principal for Brookside Middle School in Sarasota, and Tara Spielman has been selected as the new Principal for Taylor Ranch Elementary School in Venice.
“We are thrilled to add two dynamic principals to our family of school leaders,” said Mitsi Corcoran, interim superintendent of Sarasota County Schools. “Both Ryan Chase and Tara Spielman have made a tremendous impact at each school where they have served. Mr. Chase and Mrs. Spielman have each worked their way up through the school district and are well-versed in caring for our students, supporting our families, and uplifting their colleagues. Now more than ever, it’s important for our district to have highly-experienced, compassionate leaders to provide for our schools.”
“Ryan Chase has the right personal and professional skills to make him successful as the new Principal of Brookside Middle School,” noted Steve Cantees, executive director of Secondary Schools. “Mr. Chase is personable, highly intelligent, collaborative by nature, and has a strong work ethic – he holds himself to the highest of standards. His vast experience as a secondary school administrator has prepared him well for a middle school principalship. Mr. Chase is very excited to be given the opportunity to work with a highly-accomplished school staff that has set a high bar for success!”
Mr. Ryan Chase received a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of Florida, a Master’s Degree in Social Studies Education from the University of Florida, and an Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Before assuming his new role as principal of Brookside Middle School, Chase served as the assistant principal of curriculum at Sarasota High School, an assistant principal at Woodland Middle School, and an assistant principal at McIntosh Middle School. Prior to his time with Sarasota County Schools, Chase served in Manatee County as an assistant principal at Carlos E. Haile Middle School and a history teacher at Buffalo Creek Middle School.
“Tara Spielman is a perfect match to serve as the next Principal of Taylor Ranch Elementary School,” commented Chris Renouf, executive director of Elementary Schools. “She is a true instructional leader with the expertise and experience to compliment the long-standing Tradition of Excellence the staff, students, and families are accustomed to at Taylor Ranch. Mrs. Spielman is a consummate professional that leads with integrity and a firm commitment to building relationships, trust, and collaboration with all stakeholders.”
Mrs. Tara Spielman received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Walden University, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from American College of Education. Before assuming her new role as principal of Taylor Ranch Elementary School, Spielman served as the high school assistant principal at Pine View School for the Gifted, an assistant principal at McIntosh Middle School, and a professional development & teacher evaluation specialist for Sarasota County Schools. She has also served as a facilitator of adult education for the Florida Diagnostic Learning Resource System, a math teacher at Pine View School for the Gifted, and a seventh-grade teacher at Heron Creek Middle School.
