July 15 – Final Reopening Plan & School Reopening Parent/Guardian Survey

Good evening Sarasota County families,

The final, School Board-approved reopening plan is now available on the school district website. It can be found at www.sarasotacountyschools.net/backtoschool. We encourage all parents and guardians to review the final plan. We are continually updating our School Reopening Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), so please check back often – these can also be found at www.sarasotacountyschools.net/backtoschool.

Please note: Though the School Board of Sarasota County approved this final plan during their July 14 Meeting, it still must be reviewed & approved by the Florida Department of Education before it can be put into effect for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

Last week, the Commissioner of Education issued an Emergency Order that directs all Florida School districts to open “Brick and Mortar” schools five days each week beginning in August. The School Board of Sarasota County requested to push back the first day of school for traditional public school students in Sarasota County to Monday, August 31. They also requested the option for children to start school remotely on Monday, August 31. This remote learning option allows children to be taught by a teacher from their assigned school who would interact with remote learners and children in the classroom at the same time.

In order for our Principals to begin the complex process of scheduling each child for the 2020-2021 school year, we need to ensure every family has completed the School Reopening Parent/Guardian Survey NO LATER THAN MONDAY, JULY 2O. As a reminder, the School Reopening Parent/Guardian Survey can be found at www.sarasotacountyschools.net/backtoschool. You must complete a survey for each child and include their N number (which is a unique number issued by the school district, not a social security number, that allows us to link your child to their school and grade). A few important notes:

  • If you previously completed the School Reopening Parent/Guardian Survey and DO NOT want to change your option, then no further action is needed.
  • If you previously completed the School Reopening Parent/Guardian Survey and DO want to change your option, please complete the survey again and the most recent information you submit will be used.
  • If you have NOT completed the School Reopening Parent/Guardian Survey yet, please complete the survey so your school’s Principal can begin the scheduling process.

PLEASE NOTE: All children without a submitted survey choice will default to “Brick and Mortar”.

Thank you for your assistance as we plan together to provide a successful and safe learning experience for all students in our school district.
