March 11 – Important Information – Superintendent Search Survey, Mobile Device Needs Survey & Spring Break considerations regarding COVID-19

March 11, 2020 -- 5:40 PM

Dear Sarasota County families,

Please note: This is a highly important message with critical information concerning the district’s Superintendent Search Survey, our Mobile Device Needs Survey, and Spring Break considerations regarding COVID-19.

Superintendent Search Survey

The School Board of Sarasota County has opened the search process for the district’s next Superintendent of Schools, with the help of the Florida School Boards Association. A Community Advisory Committee, made up of community members chosen by our School Board members— and who will represent a cross-section of Sarasota County —will take part in the search. The school district is also actively seeking input from staff and the community through an online survey. District staff will be receiving the Superintendent Search Survey link via email today. Community members, and staff who do not have regular access to district email, can access the Superintendent Search Survey online here. The online survey will close on Thursday, April 2.

We encourage all members of our Sarasota County community to stay connected to keep up to date on the search. Please visit often, as items will be continuously updated as new information becomes available. We will utilize this webpage to list important details, including a timeline of the search process and all applications submitted by candidates, which will be posted as the search progresses.

Mobile Device Needs Survey

In the unlikely event of a traditional public school closure due to any emergency situation during the regular academic year, Sarasota County Schools will make every effort to ensure that our students’ educational opportunities continue while they are safely at home.

In order to identify students who may need to checkout a laptop and/or an internet hotspot, we are asking parents & guardians of traditional public school students to complete a brief online survey. The survey can be found on the Information Technology page on the district website, or by going to

It is important that we gather this information for our teachers NOW so they can continue to provide instruction virtually if school closures occur in the future. Please take a moment to complete this important survey! We appreciate your partnership as we all work to provide for the educational needs of our children.  If you can’t access the survey, please contact the district’s Information Technology department at 941-927-9000, ext. 31350.

Spring Break COVID-19 Updates

Please note, as of this time of this message, virtually all new cases of COVID-19 in Florida are travel-related. Many families are planning to travel during spring break. With the rapid spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) around the world, including the United States, we wanted to provide information that may be helpful for your travel decision-making. The health and safety of all our students and staff is our district’s highest priority. We are closely monitoring the Coronavirus situation in Florida, and our local Sarasota community. We are also working closely with our local Department of Health to ensure we have the most current information and recommendations to keep our community healthy.

If you are planning to travel during spring break, we encourage you to carefully review the travel advice on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) web page at: This information is updated frequently and will contain the most current information about travel precautions. However, please understand that this is a rapidly evolving situation so recommendations can change daily.

**This is an important personal decision whether or not to travel, but should you do so, you must follow the CDC advisories. As such, should you choose to travel, please plan now for any possible impact on your family.

While families are enjoying their time off, our custodial teams will continue deep cleaning and disinfecting all schools.

We wish all our teachers, staff, students, parents & families a safe and restful Spring Break!
