March 2 – COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Important Health Information from Sarasota County Schools
March 2, 2020, 5:30 PM
Dear Sarasota County families,
We wanted to assure you that Sarasota County Schools is working closely with local and state Department of Health officials, as well as local and state Emergency Management officials, on sharing the latest updates regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus). As a reminder, all medical updates related to the Coronavirus itself should be sourced directly from www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html. Please note that the Department of Health has established a COVID-19 call center for those with questions: 1-866-779-6121. Questions can also be emailed to COVIDemail@example.com.
As of our last Department of Health (DOH) update earlier this afternoon, Sarasota County Schools has not been advised to close schools. The DOH will update the school district if they feel it is necessary for us to close schools, cancel field trips, or suspend after-school or extracurricular activities at any point in time.
Our schools have already been undergoing enhanced cleaning because of the existing cold and flu season, but we have increased cleaning and disinfecting measures in our schools. Please continue to help us keep all of our schools healthy and safe by following (and reinforcing) these important CDC and DOH tips:
Avoid touching your eyes, nose & mouth, especially with unclean hands
Cough into the sleeve of your shirt (or tissues that are properly disposed of)
Consider getting a flu vaccine, if you haven’t done so already
Avoid sharing food and drinks with others
Continue to eat healthy foods, exercise and get adequate sleep
Students/staff/teachers with a fever should be excluded from school until they are fever-free without medication for 24 hours
We will be sure to share any updates we receive from the DOH and CDC as updated information becomes available to us.
