School District and SC/TA Reach Contract Agreement

SARASOTA COUNTY, January 23, 2020 – The School Board of Sarasota County and the Sarasota Classified/Teachers Association are proud to announce that the two parties reached agreement in bargaining last evening. The salary agreement will, in the most part, be the same as employees received the past two school years. Teachers with an effective rating will receive a 3.25% total increase and highly effective teachers will receive a 4.25% total increase. Non-instructional employees not receiving those reclassifications detailed below will receive a 3.75% total increase.

The parties agreed to institute a $12.00 minimum wage, which will help to substantially increase the salaries of the district’s lowest paid employees. We also agreed to upgrade the salaries of bus drivers and those aides who work with our district’s most challenging populations. Some of these employees will receive salary increases approaching 33%.

Bargaining ended on a cooperative note. Both sides worked hard to reach an agreement, and we would like to thank each bargaining team for their hard work and dedication to seeing this long process come to an amiable conclusion. The completion of bargaining frees up our district to begin its search for a new superintendent. The School Board of Sarasota County and the Sarasota Classified/Teachers Association look forward to more collaborative opportunities in the future, and are proud to support the wonderful students, teachers, staff and schools in Sarasota County.
