SARASOTA COUNTY, December 19, 2019 – Sarasota County Schools is pleased to announce that Mrs. Meghan Mayer, a language arts teacher at Woodland Middle School, has been selected for Curriculum Associates' Inaugural Class of Extraordinary Educators. Mrs. Mayer is one of two Florida teachers— and among a total of 31 teachers nationwide —to be selected for the program.

Curriculum Associates' new, annual program will focus on celebrating and connecting top-level teachers who demonstrate the following criteria:

  • Have taught for at least two years
  • Have experience using i-Ready® and/or Ready® in their classrooms
  • Illustrate growth and achievement via formal assessment(s)
  • Demonstrate classroom innovation and engagement practices for students
  • Are champions for high standards and student achievement

Teachers selected for the Extraordinary Educators program will be connected to a network of exemplary colleagues from around the country, receive local and national recognition and gain access to numerous, unique professional development opportunities throughout the course of the year.

“We are delighted to celebrate this achievement with Mrs. Mayer,” said Dr. Cindy Hall, principal of Woodland Middle School. “She has done a tremendous job utilizing innovative tools, like i-Ready®, to help her students succeed. I look forward to seeing how this experience will help Meghan continue to grow as an educator, and enable her students to thrive even more as they reach their fullest potential.”

"I am honored to be named an Extraordinary Educator," said Mayer. "i-Ready® has been a key tool in my success as a teacher, and I am thrilled to share my passion for this program with others. It will be exciting to learn from educators across the country and implement new, results-driven techniques in my classes. I’m proud to showcase all of the great things my students and school community have achieved and look forward to representing Sarasota County Schools this year.”

Mrs. Mayer and fellow program participants will also be invited to attend and present at the two-day Extraordinary Educators Leadership Summit in the summer of 2020. For more information about Curriculum Associates' Extraordinary Educators program, please visit
