August 5 – Important Information from Sarasota County Schools

August 5, 6:00 PM

Good evening families,

Please note the following important new information & reminders. This message will cover school reopening resources, an important student scheduling notice, summer vaccinations, and registration/re-registration for the 2020-21 school year.

School Reopening Resources

The school district has been working hard to assemble a collection of resources related to returning to school. The Return to Learn guide – as well as videos related to personal protective equipment (PPE), reopening safety, and contact tracing – are now available on the school district’s website. Please visit to view all available resources. Additional resources will be added as items are finalized.

Important Student Scheduling Notice

As of Wednesday, August 12th, administrators will begin building class lists and schedules using every parent’s input on whether their child returns in person or remotely. Any requests for remote instruction after that date will cause a delay in assigning your child to a class or schedule. Parents can access the Parent Portal on Thursday, August 27th to see their child’s schedule.

Summer Vaccinations for Students

Summer is a great time for students to get their FREE, school-required vaccines (and other recommended immunizations) for the upcoming school year from the Department of Health (DOH). Due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns, the DOH is providing immunization services by appointment only.

The DOH strongly encourages parents to call for an appointment now for required school vaccines. If you are unable to speak to a DOH representative when you call, please leave a voice message and a DOH representative will return your call to schedule an appointment. All visitors are required to wear masks or other face coverings. Additionally, when planning to visit a DOH facility for an appointment, the DOH asks that parents/guardians please only bring the student(s) that need vaccines.

  • For an appointment in Sarasota (2200 Ringling Blvd) please call: 941-861-2784
  • For an appointment in North Port (6950 Outreach Way) please call: 941-861-3850

The DOH has created a special (unsecure) email address ( that parents/guardians new to the area can use to email their child’s shot records to the DOH, as well as request a 680. Parents/guardians will need to provide the DOH their local address, a valid phone #, and their name(s). Parents/guardians can also secure fax their child’s records to the DOH if they prefer: 941-526-1532.

Please note the following Florida School Immunization Requirements for the 2020-21 school year:

  • Up-to-date immunizations are required, and all immunization dates must be on Florida Certificate of Immunization (DH680). Please contact your physician or the DOH in Sarasota for the form.

Graduating seniors should consider getting their college entrance vaccinations during summer, as well, as these can often cost hundreds of dollars if received after a student turns 19. As a reminder, those under age 19 are not charged for vaccines received at the Department of Health.
