Principal's Welcome

Dear Venice Families and Community Members,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!

The Venice Elementary School staff is thrilled to work with you and our students this year. Last year our school experienced amazing levels of success, and VES earned its 17th consecutive “A” rating! We know that this is a shared achievement, and we are extremely proud of the efforts of our students, faculty and staff, families, and community members who worked so diligently for this recognition. YOU are the reason VES is an amazing school!

As we begin our new school year together, it is important to discuss some school safety and security changes that will be taking place. Everyone at VES wants to ensure that our students and staff are safe from the moment they enter our school until they leave, and we have collaborated with our PTO, the VES School Advisory Council, our school district safety and security department, and members from the Venice Police Department to design and implement these new features and procedures that are aligned with the goals of the Sarasota County School District.

In addition to specific physical enhancements to our front office, this school year all parents, community members, and guests to VES will be required to visit the front office and receive a badge prior to gaining access to the school building. This will include anyone who wants to join their children for breakfast or escort them to their classrooms.

Please know that these changes are being implemented to help ensure the safety and security of our school, our staff, and most importantly, our students. VES has had a rich tradition of phenomenal family and community involvement, and we do not want that to change in the slightest. We value our family and community engagement and believe that this extra layer of security will help enhance the overall experience that our families have when visiting the VES campus.

Our school office will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. during the school year. Students and families who choose to eat breakfast at school will be able to do so as early as 8:00 a.m. Please remember to obtain a visitor’s badge prior to entering the cafeteria. Students will be able to enter the school and go to their classrooms at 8:15 a.m. The school day begins at 8:30 a.m., and any students not in their classroom by that time will be marked as tardy.

Our school day ends at 3:15 p.m. It is very important that your child remain in school for the duration of the day. However, if your child does need to leave school early and is being picked up by someone that is not on your child’s contact list, written permission from the residing parent is required.

We LOVE our VES volunteers! If you want to be a volunteer for the 2018-2019 school year, please be sure to complete the volunteer application. It takes a few days for your application to be approved, and you can complete the application in the VES front office or by following this link on your computer or device: https://scs-datamgmt.sarasota.k12.fl.us/volunteerscount

We are thrilled to spend this year with you and your children, and we look forward to an amazing year filled with exciting learning and life-long memories.

Welcome to Venice Elementary School!
