Changing the World One Community at a Time.

Englewood Elementary School (Englewood, Florida) and Sarasota Middle School (Sarasota, Florida) are partnering together to create an international, community service-learning project. The sustainable outreach program is sponsored by the Sarasota County School District, the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice, the Golden Rule Foundation, and Consulate Health Care Services of Maitland.

Changing the World One Community at a Time will aim at exploring art, history, culture and modeling interactive, interpersonal communication in each of the Sarasota communities as well as the community of Merida, Mexico. Students from Englewood Elementary School will work together to create and install a large wall mosaic that celebrates the diversity of their school community and Merida, Mexico. In addition, children from Sarasota Middle School as well as Englewood Elementary will create additional art projects/ceramic pieces representing their own local cultures and exchange them throughout the year.

The fundamental goal of the project is to create sustainable relationships, global interpersonal correspondence centered on collaboration, and celebration as well as an existence of “community sisterhood” that builds upon each other annually.
