Our Community

Adopt-a-Class

By adopting a class or special area of our school and making a tax-deductible donation of $150, a local business will receive valuable and favorable exposure with students and our families. Parents or other individuals are also welcome to adopt a class. 100% of the money goes directly to that class to purchase items including books, computer software, math materials, supplies, thematic learning centers and more!

If you would like to adopt-a-class, please contact Sharon Cullinan at Englewood Elementary School: 941-474-3247 or sharon_cullinan@sarasota.k12.fl.us

Business Partner in Education

The partnership between a school and its community members is extremely important. The opportunity that business partners provide for our students creates lasting memories and experiences that the school cannot provide alone. One goal at Englewood Elementary is to provide our students with more than just your standard education using text and words, but to provide lasting experiences which only a partnership between a school and the local business and community can provide.

With your support, we are able to use your donations and assistance to open the minds of our students to the variety of opportunities that await them outside our walls. In return for your assistance, we are able to provide you (our business partner) with advertising opportunities within our school to further the bond between our students, parents, and you.

If you would like to become a Partner in Education with Englewood Elementary School or would like more information, please call 941-474-3247 and leave a message or email us at: sharon_cullinan@sarasota.k12.fl.us

Partners in Print

Partners in Print is a Kindergarten and First Grade parent involved program designed to encourage the involvement of parents in their child’s literacy development. The overall goal is that our children will develop a love of reading and become life-long readers.

Teachers and parents and the students meet one evening a month. Teachers model reading strategies while parents and their children watch. Then the parents practice working with their child using these same strategies. They learn how to select books, how to reinforce comprehension, the importance of phonemic awareness, predicting and writing, etc. They enjoy the comrade of other parents who offer tips and new ideas on what works with their children. Each child also receives two new books to take home each evening.

The children love having their parent’s attention and everyone has fun with the activities.  These monthly workshops are exciting and lively. We all learn a great deal and have a good time!

Family Reading Nights

Englewood Elementary School is open most Thursday evenings throughout the school year from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  During this time, we encourage families to use our media center and computer lab to work toward individual student reading goals.  Food is available for purchase during this time.  All funds raised help support our classrooms and school projects.  Some evenings we have community members and business partners in to share other local events and services with our families.  Family Mileage Club also takes place during Family Reading Nights.  This allows our families to exercise together in a friendly and social environment.
Three times per school year, we also host Reading Celebrations.  All students who have met their Accelerated Reader grading period goals are invited to the celebrations.  These events are complimentary and include dinner, entertainment, and prizes for the student and his/her family.  All of these events are made possible through the dedication of our staff and the financial support from our PTA.
