Dr. Barbara Shirley, Principal
Welcome to Alta Vista! We share a common vision of high expectations for quality classroom instruction, students who are motivated to learn, and a supportive and encouraging community that makes our school a Great Place to Be! During each child’s educational journey, we focus on successful academic achievement, social-emotional development, and promoting life-long learning. To ensure success, we are dedicated to using research-based instructional practices and specialized curriculum designed to meet individual learning needs of students throughout each learning experience.
The teachers and staff are dedicated to providing the very best education for every child. Our objective is to deliver challenging academic programs that strengthen specific learning needs and promote a love of learning. We are constantly reviewing standards, keeping up with important educational research, and analyzing data to make sure every child is successful.
Alta Vista is proud to be a Community of Caring school. Our educational program is built around the five core values of Caring, Respect, Responsibility, Trust, and Family, which empower students to be responsible and caring members of a community. These five core values serve as a foundation and umbrella for activities and initiatives in our school. As a Community of Caring school, the social-emotional growth of our students is important in promoting positive mental health and character development as they continue their educational journey.
The most successful students are those whose parents/guardians are involved in their education. These students tend to earn better grades, score higher on standardized tests, have better attendance records and show a more positive attitude toward school. We appreciate our parent partnership and encourage our parents to get involved in their child’s education. Effective involvement happens when parents have access to information and resources that encourage children to succeed. We have many programs for parents to get involved and be connected to the school. Our Parent University provides workshops that focus on strengthening parenting skills, promoting successful student achievement, and adult career and vocational classes. Be sure to check out our Soar to Success Adult Education Center and Eagle’s Nest Volunteer Center to learn how you can achieve your personal education goals and volunteer at Alta Vista. Your involvement, encouragement and support of your child’s education will help him/her know that you value education and ensure your child has a great school experience.
Alta Vista is a two-generation community school that educates both children and parents together. We are excited about providing programs that promote learning and family involvement. By working together, your child will have a rewarding learning experience filled with the joys of success and accomplishment.
