Emerging Educator
Funded by Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation, the Sarasota County Schools’ Emerging Educator initiative has been established to increase our new teacher pool. The intent of this initiative is to identify volunteers, parents, substitutes, paraprofessionals, and community members that demonstrate characteristics of strong, successful future teachers and a desire to pursue a teaching career.
If you are interested in becoming a teacher with Sarasota County Schools and you currently hold a bachelor’s degree or higher or are enrolled in school seeking a degree in education please consider applying to be a member of the Emerging Educator cohort.
You must have a completed application on file with Sarasota County Schools. Depending on your level of education, you will complete an instructional or non-instructional application. If you have a bachelor’s degree or higher, you will complete an instructional application. If you do not have a bachelor’s degree or higher, you will complete a non-instructional application.
Within the application, under “employment preferences”, interested applicants must check Emerging Educator. This will prompt additional questions to be displayed for the applicant to answer. This is referred to as a narrative application and it too needs to be completed.
A Sarasota County School administrator reference is preferred as part of the application packet. The link to the preferred administrator reference form can be found on the right side of the page. The applicant is encouraged to upload it themselves or request that it be emailed from the administrator directly to Rashea Johnson, Talent Acquisition Coordinator: Email Rashea Johnson.
Once cohort members are selected, each participant will be sent an email requesting completion of a drug test, fingerprint, and proof of a physical within the last 12 months. Once HR receives this information, applicants will go into “application complete” status. (Current substitutes will already have this information on file.)
If you are selected to participate in the cohort, you will be expected to work toward securing a Florida teaching certificate. You will also be expected to commit to working in Sarasota County Schools for 3 years. As a member of the cohort, you will receive support towards these goals, which can include professional development activities, networking opportunities, mentoring, study materials, and compensation for required testing and course fees in pursuit of your certification.
