5.56 School Health Services

I. The School Board shall collaborate with the Department of Health in Sarasota County and the District School Health Advisory Committee to develop and implement a health services plan. This plan shall be contained in the Sarasota Schools Health Manual.

II. The plan shall include, but not be limited to, provisions for all aspects required by law.

III. At the beginning of each school year, the principal shall inform the parent(s) as defined by Florida Statutes, in writing, of each healthcare service offered at their student’s school and that the parent has the option to withhold consent or decline any specific service as provided in the health services plan. A health care practitioner may not solicit or arrange to provide health care services or prescribe medicinal drugs to a minor child without first obtaining written parental consent.

IV. Prior to the District administering a student well-being questionnaire or health screening form to a minor student the District will provide the questionnaire or health screening form to the parent or guardian and obtain the parent(s) or guardian(s) permission to administer these services.
