4.60 District and Statewide Assessment Program

I. Provisions of the District and statewide testing program for students shall be set forth in the District Student & Family Handbook. The handbook shall be approved by the School Board and is hereby incorporated by reference and made a part of these policies.

II. No student shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefit of, or be subjected to discrimination under any District testing program on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, age, national or ethnic origin, political or religious beliefs, marital status, sexual orientation, pregnancy, disability if otherwise qualified, genetic information, or social and family background.

III. The District shall adopt local assessments to measure student performance in some subjects and grade levels not measured under the statewide assessment program. The assessments shall measure mastery of course content as described in state adopted course descriptions. Local assessments may include national, and other standardized assessments, industry certification assessments, and district developed end of course assessments. The assessment schedule shall be approved by the School Board. Assessment schedules shall be published on the District website and reported to the Department of Education.

IV. The statewide standardized end of course assessment shall be used as the final cumulative examination for the relevant course. A local assessment may be required as the final cumulative examination for a course that is not assessed under the statewide assessment program.

V. The uniform calendar of assessment and reporting schedules, provided by the Department of Education, shall be published on the District website. The District assessment schedule and required information shall be incorporated into the uniform calendar.

VI. Permissible test modifications and/or accommodations shall be made for students with disabilities who have Individual Education Plans (IEP) and/or 504 Plans and for Limited English Proficient students to ensure aptitude and achievement are measured and not their disability or language limitation.

VII. A Florida Virtual School full-time student of a military family residing outside of Florida who is prevented by his or her parent’s or guardian’s out-of-state military duty station’s location from participating in statewide assessment in Florida must be offered flexibility with respect to remote administration of the statewide, standardized assessments set forth in Section 1008.22(3)(a), (b), and (d), F.S, and FL DOE Rule 6A-10.042

VIII. The parent, as defined by Florida Statutes, of each student must be notified regarding the progress of the student towards achieving state and District expectations for proficiency in reading, science, writing and mathematics. A student’s state assessment results and the results of district-required local assessments must be reported to the parent.

IX. The District shall provide student performance results on statewide standardized assessments and district-required local assessments to instructional personnel for the purpose of improving instruction.
