4.16 Homework Assignments

Homework is to be a regular part of the instructional process. Teachers, under the direction of the principal, are responsible for assigning homework commensurate with course content as well as the maturity level and needs of individual students. The following guidelines shall be used for making homework assignments in keeping with the district’s instructional goals.

I. Meet the needs of the individual student;

II. Be thoroughly explained to the student;

III. Result in learning and not be busywork or a repetition of what the student already knows;

IV. Be assigned with sufficient time for a student to obtain any resource that is needed or required;

V. Not be assigned as a disciplinary measure; and,

VI. Be reasonable in length of time for completion of the assignment.

VII. Homework will not be assigned on the day of a religious holiday.
