FortifyFL app

SARASOTA COUNTY, October 26, 2018 – Sarasota County Schools is one of several school districts across the State of Florida to integrate FortifyFL, a comprehensive reporting tool, into its overall school safety program. The application was designed to provide students and school communities a fast and easy way to report suspicious activity to appropriate public safety agencies and school officials. The application is free and is available for download for both Android and Apple devices. All tips and messages are shared with district employees and local law enforcement to assess and address each concern. The application was developed by the Florida Department of Education, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Florida Attorney General’s Office for school districts across Florida to fulfill requirements set forth by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act. In addition to dialing 9-1-1 and calling the school district’s 24/7 tip line, 941-966-SAFE, FortifyFL is another way for students to report issues concerning their safety and security using their mobile or digital devices.

“We have been waiting for the Florida Department of Education to complete work on the application, and we’re glad it’s now available for use,” noted Todd Bowden, superintendent of Sarasota County Schools. “FortifyFL is easy to download and use to send important messages to school officials and local law enforcement. We are pleased our school communities have yet another way to report potentially harmful activity to those who can immediately help them.”

“With so many students using mobile devices, having an application like FortifyFL integrated into our overall school safety plan makes sense,” commented Michael Andreas, executive director of Public Safety. “The Sarasota County Schools Police Department will work with school officials and local law enforcement to immediately assess and address every tip we receive. We are hopeful that students, parents and staff continue to employ the “If You See Something, Say Something so it Means Something” mantra and utilize the app when they need to.”

Students, staff and parents are encouraged to download the reporting tool using their mobile or digital devices. Just look for the garnet and white FortifyFL logo and megaphone found in all Android or Apple app stores.
