Sarasota County Schools Police Department Welcomes Four Officers at Oath of Office Ceremony

SARASOTA COUNTY, September 7, 2018 – The Sarasota County Schools Police Department officially welcomed four Police Officers into its ranks Thursday after holding an Oath of Office ceremony at Tatum Ridge Elementary School. Sarasota County Schools team members, Tatum Ridge students and their parents all gathered to witness the meaningful ceremony.

“We are thankful that so many esteemed men and women continue to apply for positions with the Sarasota County Schools Police Department,” said Todd Bowden, superintendent of Sarasota County Schools. “The four newest officers alone have over 100 years of combined law enforcement experience spanning many focus areas and leadership levels. Their diverse skills are a huge asset to the department as a whole.”

“The school communities are seeing the results more and more each day as they interact with our officers,” commented Sarasota County School District Chief of Police Paul Grohowski. “The Sarasota County Schools Police Department has made a commitment to hire only the very best, highly-trained professionals. Our community’s children are under expert care. We are dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service and committed to keeping our schools safe.”

Please join us in recognizing the four newest members of the SCSPD:

  • Officer David Aker
    • Officer Aker served over 23 years with the Venice Police Department. He has previously held assignments as a Field Training Officer, a Driving Instructor, and a School Resource Officer at Venice High School. Officer Aker is well-known in the community for overseeing the “Shop with A Cop” holiday program, which enables Officers to connect with local children and their families to help them shop for holiday presents.
  • Officer Joseph Eppolito
    • Officer Eppolito started his career in public service as a certified Firefighter and Paramedic in New York. He later joined the New York Police Department where he served with distinction for over 20 years, retiring as a Detective, Second Grade. Upon retiring from the NYPD, Officer Eppolito joined the New York City Department of Investigation, where he served as a Certified Technical Investigator as well as an instructor for their academy.
  •  Officer Daniel Gale
    • Officer Gale recently retired after serving over 25 years with the Massachusetts State Police as a Lieutenant. He has held assignments in Patrol, on the Dive Team, and in the Civil Disturbance Squad, among others. As a Lieutenant, Officer Gale was responsible for the Shelburne Falls State Police Barracks, where he supervised 32 State Police Troopers and Sergeants, who provided police services to 17 towns and cities.
  • Officer Thomas Gallucci
    • Officer Gallucci is an Army veteran and first began his law enforcement career serving as a Military Police Officer in Germany. He has over 30 years of law enforcement experience, most notably with the United States Marshals Service in Connecticut. Officer Gallucci was awarded the US Marshals’ Certificate of Recognition for capturing America’s 15th Most Wanted Person in 2003.
