Carol Kay Brown Named Director of Leadership at Sarasota County Schools

SARASOTA COUNTY, July 18, 2018 – Carol Kay Brown has been named the new director of leadership at Sarasota County Schools effective July 17. A Hillsborough County Schools educator for 19 years, Mrs. Brown joins the Sarasota community from Robles Elementary in Tampa, where she served as principal since 2017. Brown’s position with the district was formerly held by Dr. Wendy Katz.

“Mrs. Brown will be a dynamic addition to the district as the new director of leadership at Sarasota County Schools,” commented Todd Bowden, superintendent of Sarasota County Schools. “Her extensive developmental experience and passion for fostering team dynamics will be essential. Additionally, her prowess for professional growth and training will equip instructors to better serve our students. Her talents will be greatly utilized at Sarasota County Schools.”

“Mrs. Brown has a proven track record that boasts student achievement and development,” noted Dr. Laura Kingsley, assistant superintendent/chief academic officer. “Carol has received numerous awards that speak to her continued pursuit of excellence, not only for herself, but also for her students and instructors that have served under her leadership. She is a steward of innovative and diversified programs, a focus that will surely enhance our district.”

Before her role at Robles Elementary, Mrs. Brown was the principal at MOSI Partnership Elementary from 2013 – 2017 where she was responsible for numerous educational collaborations as well as implementing professional learning communities and procedures for instructional staff. Before that administrative role, Mrs. Brown was the principal at Temple Terrace Elementary School from 2010 – 2013, the assistant principal for elementary instruction at Temple Terrace Elementary School from 2005 – 2010, and a second-grade teacher at Temple Terrace Elementary School from 2001 – 2005. Mrs. Brown has a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the Nova Southeastern University and a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida. She is currently pursuing her Educational Doctorate in Innovative Education at the University of South Florida.
