It is the policy of Sarasota County Schools and Riverview High School that all students have access to a safe and secure environment that is free from bullying, harassment, or discrimination of any kind.

  • Bullying definition:

    Bullying includes cyberbullying and means systematic and chronic infliction of physical or psychological distress on another student.  It includes written, verbal, or physical behavior by a student or adult that is severe or pervasive enough to: create an intimidating, hostile, or offensive educational environment; cause discomfort or humiliation; or unreasonably interferes with an individual’s access to school services or the school environment.  To qualify as bullying the behavior must be intentional, repetitive, and contain a power differential.

    Cyberbullying is defined as using technology or electronic communication (including social media) to engage in bullying behavior.

    Harassment definition:

    Harassment includes cyber-harassment and means any threatening, insulting, or dehumanizing gesture, use of data or computer software, or written, verbal or physical conduct directed against a student that: Places the student in reasonable fear of harm to their self or damage to their property; has the effect of substantially interfering with a student’s educational performance, opportunities, or benefits; or has the effect of substantially disrupting the orderly operation of a school.

    Cyber-harassment is defined as using technology or electronic communication (including social media) to engage in harassing behavior.
