Code of Student Conduct
Every student has the right to learn in an environment which is safe, conducive to the learning process, and free from unnecessary disruption. STC students MUST conduct themselves in a manner consistent with a safe and positive learning environment as described in this handbook and the Sarasota County School Board Student and Family Handbook.
-
Dismissal
While every attempt is made to ensure a student’s success at STC, there are instances when students must withdraw from programs. These instances may include unsatisfactory conduct, excessive absences, violation of safety regulations, unsatisfactory progress, non-compliance with program dress code, and/or other causes. STC follows the Sarasota County School District Disciplinary Procedures. Please visit the Disciplinary Procedures page of the Sarasota County School District Handbook. Severe disciplinary infractions can result in removal from the school, forfeiting tuition/fee reimbursement.

Dress Code
The Sarasota County School District has established procedural guidelines for student dress, in accordance with School Board Policy 5.37. The administration’s decision on the appropriateness of dress will be final. Refusal to comply with the school’s dress code policy is an infraction under this code. For entire Code of Student Conduct, please view the Sarasota County School District Student & Family Handbook Code of Student Conduct page.
STC’s Dress Code adds the following:
- Slacks or Jeans that are intact (not torn either through use or by design/manufacture) are required. They may not have excessive embroidery or adornment (rhinestones, studs, etc.) and should be in good serviceable condition not excessively worn/faded (naturally or chemically). They are to fit properly around the waist, not falling down nor worn around the hips. If you need to pull them up frequently or hold them up around the waist, you must wear a belt.
- Low cut/rise slacks or jeans (hip huggers) are inappropriate.
- Athletic/sweatpants, leotards, pajamas, yoga or any excessively tight/revealing pants are inappropriate.
- Shorts of any kind are inappropriate.
- Capris, by design and with a cuff that is below mid-calf are acceptable.
It is never appropriate for males or females to have any undergarments visible in any way. Revealing clothing, by fabric type, design/cut or method of wearing is never appropriate.
Most programs do not permit the wearing of skirts for safety reasons whether the student is in a lab setting or in the classroom. If it is allowed, no skirt may be shorter than bottom of the knee in minimum length.
Most programs have a required shirt, smock, scrub, etc. that the students are to be wearing at all times on campus. If the program does not, it is inappropriate to be wearing anything that promotes drugs, sex, violence, alcohol, or gang lifestyle. It is advised that if there is no required uniform, the student wears a polo-style shirt without embroidery or printing.
It is expected that shirts are to be tucked in at all times. The only exception to this is uniforms that are intended to be worn outside the pants (scrubs, smocks, etc.)
Closed toed and heeled shoes must be worn for safety reasons whether the student is in a lab setting or not. Heels over an inch are inappropriate. Flip flops, tabi, sock-like shoes, shoes containing rolling devices of any nature or slippers are unacceptable.
Head coverings are not appropriate unless they are part of a specific program’s dress code or conform properly to the student’s religious observance.
Non-traditional piercings (other than ears) are commonly considered inappropriate. It is common practice that inconspicuous, clear or small jewelry is commonly used to replace obvious ones in the workplace and is recommended here.
Jewelry is to be kept to a minimum. Many programs consider it a hazard and it is not permitted in a laboratory.
Any jewelry, accessories or clothing that could be considered a weapon by the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) or the school District of Sarasota County are prohibited on School District properties.
Most programs have a uniform/dress code that all students are expected to follow. Students are expected to be properly attired when they arrive on campus. They should change as soon as they enter the campus if not before they arrive.
