• McKay Scholarship

The McKay Scholarship Program allows eligible students with a disability the opportunity to select placement in a private school or transfer from their assigned attendance zone school to another public school (traditional and charter).

The district participates in the McKay Scholarship program, which is offered through the Florida Department of Education. The district distributes information about the McKay Scholarship annually to all parents/guardians of students with a disability.  A district public school selected by a parent/guardian under the McKay Scholarship Program’s public school option must have available space and the resources that are required to fully implement the student’s Individual Education Plan or 504 Accommodation Plan.  McKay Scholarship Intent Applications are completed online at http://www.fldoe.org/schools/school-choice and must be received by the school district by the state-mandated July 1 deadline if a student is going to be placed in a private school and receive the full scholarship funding for the new upcoming academic year. Parents may learn more about this educational option by visiting the Florida Department of Education website, www.fldoe.org, the school district’s website, www.SarasotaCountySchools.net or by calling the Office of School Choice and Charter Schools at 941-927-9000, ext. 32258.
