    MY SINGLE SIGN-ON PORTAL

    MySCS

    USING my.sarasotacountyschools.net (my.scs)

Each student in SCS has a suite of grade level appropriate academic tools available to them around the clock, every day of the year. Access to adopted instructional materials and other resources are available via the single sign on. The digital resources listed below are accessed through your child's my.scs account. Below are instructions to access these resources.

    1. Visit https://my.sarasotacountyschools.net
    2. Log in using your student credentials (N# and PIN)

    Technology Plan

Computer Distribution:  Additional computers will be distributed as needed, but parents must complete the Mobile Device Survey accessed at the Sarasota District Website: https://www.sarasotacountyschools.net/deviceneedssurvey. You may do this from a cell phone. Directions on device pick up will be provided through Connect-Ed phone messaging.

    Internet Access:

Students needing internet access have the following options:

    • Comcast Internet Essentials program – families go to internetessentials.com and complete the on-line application for a self-install kit to be delivered to their home. Comcast currently offering the first 90 days for free with free cancellation at any time.
      • Potential challenge – if Comcast does not already have service in the area where the student lives, then they will be unable to take advantage of this program.
    • Sprint Wireless Hotspot – the district currently has 180 hotspots to provide to students for use. Priority will be given to any senior without reliable internet.
      • Potential challenge – the hotspot is reliant on reliable Sprint cellular coverage in an area to meet the needs of the student. If Sprint coverage is weak or spotty in an area, then the hotspot will not meet the needs of the student.
    • School Parent Pick-up & Bus Loop “Hot Zones” – the district currently has wireless coverage in the following schools parent pick-up loops: Bay Haven Elementary, Brentwood Elementary, Fruitville Elementary, Gocio Elementary, Toledo Blade Elementary, Venice Elementary, and Wilkinson Elementary. These areas would allow families to pull up in their vehicle and access a strong wireless signal. Additional areas are currently being analyzed by the IT Networking team that could be quickly set-up to accommodate more school locations and families.
      • Potential challenge – families would have to drive to the school location to get access. The laptop battery may not remain charged for the duration of the time they need to access the wireless.

    • Written directions on how to complete a HELP ticket are below
    • IT and Curriculum staff ‘experts’ have been assigned to specific applications
    • Teacher or administrator tickets will be routed to experts and responded to within 24 hours

    Written Directions – Select Applications

    Getting HELP

Getting help while you are not on campus is quick and simple.  Outlined below, there are three approaches to creating a Help ticket.  Once that Help ticket is created it will be routed to appropriate staff who will assist you.  Because you may not be on campus it is critical that you include a phone number where you can be reached.  Without a phone number staff will communicate with you on your Sarasota County email.

    Method #1 – Call Help

Staff can call the help desk from any phone between 7:30a to 5:00p.  The number for Help when you are not on campus is 941-861-4357 (941-861-HELP).  This is the simplest approach because you will be able to speak directly with a person and explain the issue you are having.  They will take care of routing it to the right location!

    Method #2 – Email Help

You can quickly and efficiently create a Help Ticket from email simply by sending email to “Help” or “help@sarasotacountyschools.net" from your Sarasota County email.   In your email include a description of the issue you’re having and a phone number where you can be reached.  From this email the Help system will automatically create a Help ticket for you and route it to the appropriate staff to assist you.

    Help
Method #3 – Visit Help online

All staff can use the regular online Help portal just as you would from school.  Simply visit https://help.sarasotacountyschools.net.  From there you will be prompted to enter your username and password.  Your username is your district “A number” (example A012345).  Your password is the password that you use to login to your district computer.  Enter a Help ticket as you normally would but please be sure to include the phone number where you can be reached.

Google Voice Account and Set Up

    What is Google Voice?

Google Voice (GV) is an alternate phone number that can be used in place of giving students your real cell phone number.  Any calls to the GV number can be forwarded to your personal phone.  Users can access Google Voice via the app or website, and all texts/call records are kept in the app or online platform.

How to make a Google Voice account:

    Create a brand-new Gmail account

    • It’s recommended that you create a completely new account that is separate from any person Gmail that you may have

Go to voice.google.com and follow the prompts to create a new phone number for yourself

    • You will be asked to set up several preferences like:
      1. Forwarding phone number
      2. Receipts/notifications sent to your Gmail account

**Depending on the volume of new accounts, you are not guaranteed a local area code.  This is completely normal, and having an area code that isn’t local is not a problem**

    • Download the Google Voice app on your phone for easy access

Using the Contacts section of your Gmail, it is recommended that as students call or text, that you create a contact for them for easy tracking throughout the course.

    • Click on the number of the text/call
    • Click on the three little dots and then select People
    • Click on the Add Contact button
