EES DRESS FOR SUCCESS

  • School and learning is a student’s full time job. Good taste, good grooming, and appropriate attire are a part of learning for both boys and girls. In order to support our students’ striving for success, Englewood Elementary School will implement and enforce a unified dress code for students that promotes a neat, well-groomed, clean appearance and contributes to student safety. Dress For Success encourages a constructive environment for academic achievement, strong discipline, a positive attitude and pride in our school community.

    HEADGEAR

    • With the exception of PE and outdoor activities, all hats, caps, scarves, bandanas, hoods, sweatbands, and sunglasses are not to be worn during school hours. All such items are to be kept in student backpacks at all times during school hours.

    TOPS

    • Tops must cover front and back with the neckline cut above the armpit level, have two straps of at least 2 inches in width, and allow no exposed midriff or undergarments.
    • See-through, sheet, and fishnet materials are prohibited.

    BOTTOMS

    • The length and fit of shorts, skirts, skorts, dresses, and overalls must not distract from the learning environment and shall be no shorter than the reach of the student’s fingertips when the arms and hands are held straight down at their sides of their bodies.
    • Recommended: shorts worn under skirts/dresses.
    • Pants, shorts, skirts, and skorts shall be fastened completely at the waist without revealing any undergarments or skin.
    • A belt or suspenders are to be worn if pants and/or shorts are not securely fastened at the waist.
    • Slouch pants, droopy pants/shorts, excessively baggy pants, and pajamas are prohibited.

    FOOTWEAR

    • Safe, appropriate shoes must be worn at all times.
    • Sneakers or athletic shoes are REQUIRED for PE, playground/recess activity & are recommended to be worn daily.
    • Shoes must cover the toes, heels, the top and bottom of the foot, and be secured at the heel. Shoes with laces and/or straps must be properly worn and tied.

    GENERAL GROOMING

    • Students and parents may choose apparel that demonstrates individuality while still maintaining high standards of appropriate attire. All clothing shall be neat and clean and shall be worn within the bounds of decency and good taste in an elementary school setting.
    • Hair which causes undue attention, disruption, or interferes with learning in the classroom is prohibited.
    • Jewelry that could cause potential injury or disruption is prohibited. Examples include but are not limited to: chains, spiked jewelry, body piercing and clip-ons other than ears, etc.
    • Face paint is not permitted.

    IMPORTANT: Clothing, jewelry, and all personal items shall be free of writing, images, or any other insignia which is offensive to others. Apparel with symbols, logos, or slogans which are insulting to any specific group, make reference to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex, violence, gangs or any illegal activities are not permitted.

    NOTE: The Principal may modify the dress code for extra-curricular school functions or special health and safety exceptions.

    Responsibility for the dress and appearance of Englewood Elementary students primarily rests with parents and students themselves. Students who violate the dress code will earn disciplinary consequences. Staff members will use discretion when dealing with dress code issues to avoid embarrassment.

ENFORCEMENT OF DRESS CODE

  • First Violation:

    • Written notice to student and parents from teacher.
    • Student must obtain parent signature and return notice to school on the following day.
    • Clean, gently used clothing will be loaned to the student to change clothing.

    Second Violation:

    • Written notice to student and parents by school administration or designee.
    • Student must obtain parent signature and return notice to school on the following day.
    • Clean, gently used clothing will be loaned to the student to change clothing.

    Third Violation:

    • Written notice to student and parents by school administration or designee.
    • Student must obtain parent signature and return notice to school on the following day.
    • Clean, gently used clothing will be loaned to the student to change clothing.
    • Student will serve detention in the administrative complex.

    Note: For frequent, repeated violations, additional and/or alternative consequences may be assigned at the discretion of the principal.
