Summer Feeding Programs
Nearly 50 percent of students attending Sarasota County Schools are eligible for free and reduced lunch. During the summer months, many of these students and their younger siblings may not have enough to eat. Sarasota County Schools, in conjunction with USDA Summer Food Service Program, embarked on the summer feeding program in March to ensure healthy minds and bodies through the school by providing free breakfast and lunch meals to children throughout Sarasota County. Anyone 18 or younger is eligible to receive free meals.
This is the twenty-third year Sarasota County Schools has implemented a summer feeding program to end hunger throughout the district and the Sarasota Community. This year 2020 has been unique with school closures. Food and Nutrition Services has been operating feeding our community since March.
Food and Nutrition Services has been able to help many children through this program with school closures. Our FNS employees, have felt great pride in serving our community in this way. We need to ensure all children have access to healthy breakfast and lunch meals to promote young minds and bodies during the summer months. This ensures they return to school in the Fall on par with their peers.”
Starting March 23rd through July 31st, Sarasota County Schools will offer free breakfast and lunch meals Fridays throughout the summer.
