Technology
and Media
Our Media Center is a busy place. Over 1,000 people
will circulate through the Center during a typical week and
approximately 1,250 items are checked out to the students and
teachers. It's a hub of activity. There is never a dull moment
in the Media Center and we are rarely closed during the school day.
Sometimes we have special visitors. Sometimes we have special
programs. Most of the time you will see students using
MediaTrack computerized card catalog to find specific books or
information. They may even be incorporating our on-line
information sources such as SIRS
or Newsbank into their
research studies. On occasion, students come in to take an Scholastic
Reading Inventory (SRI) test, a computerized reading comprehensive program
that keeps a record of student progress. Our current volume includes
over 20,000 print volumes and 400 educational digital videos. We are
very proud of what our library has to offer.
We have 3 beautiful computer labs that are packed with
modern PC
computers. We utilize state-of -the-art
programs to enrich Math, Reading, Social Studies, Science, and
even typing skills. Two of these labs are dedicated SuccessMaker
Labs. Many of our programs are linked to the classrooms
through our network so students can utilize the enrichment
programs from one of the 720 networked pc computers
located around the campus.

WCAT Live
School News
Every school day morning a very special
group of students broadcasts a LIVE news show. These
students do everything from writing their own scripts, editing
the show, mixing the sound, and filming the TV personalities.
We call it Wildcat News (WCAT). It is truly
a spectacle to watch this group of students in action.
It is also a wonderful opportunity for the teachers and
administrators to reach out to the school and make sure that
information is presented, awards are distributed and
recognition is given. We have a large number of talented
students and teachers at Wilkinson Elementary. A medium
such as WCAT affords us the time to recognize every one of
them...on live television in each and every classroom!
